Here at Strangers Brewing Co., we’re all about making beer that everyone can enjoy – and that includes our gluten-free friends too. The good news? You don’t need to compromise on flavour, body, or character to enjoy a gluten-free pint. In fact, our gluten-free beers taste just as full-bodied and delicious as any of our other brews, because they’re brewed in exactly the same way.
So, how do we do it?
The magic happens during fermentation. We use something called ‘Brewers Clarity’ – a natural enzyme originally developed to prevent chill haze (that cloudy look beer can get when it’s cold). But it turns out it has a pretty amazing superpower as well: it breaks down gluten proteins without affecting the flavour, aroma, or mouthfeel of the beer.
This means we can brew with traditional ingredients like barley and wheat, and still end up with a beer that’s safe for most people avoiding gluten. Clever, right?
And don’t worry – we test every batch
Every batch we label as gluten free is independently tested by an accredited lab to make sure it meets the UK and EU standard of less than 20ppm (parts per million) of gluten. That’s the official line that allows a product to be called “gluten free” – and we’re all about doing things properly. In fact, none of our GF beers to date have tested anywhere near this threshold.
So next time you’re browsing our beers and see that gluten-free label, you can sip confidently knowing you’re getting the real deal – no gluten, no compromises, just great beer.
Cheers! 🍻
